Netflix has without a doubt, in the past five years or so, become one of the finest sources of streaming when it comes to arresting crime dramas, great international series, and adaptations of books. One of their new series is all three things at once; any Netflix subscriber will soon have the ability to watch Deliver Me, a Scandinavian crime thriller telling a story about two friends since childhood who found themselves in an extremely difficult situation.
If this is your first time hearing about Malin Persson Giolito’s bestselling novel adaptation or if you heard about it elsewhere, stay tuned as CinemaBlend presents its findings on everything regarding the upcoming book-to-screen adaptation
Though we do not have an official date from Netflix on when Deliver Me will premiere but according to the announcement by the streamer that this upcoming series would be launched worldwide sometime in 2024. We do not know how much of this drama we are going to see yet since there hasn’t been any confirmation on specific episodes. These are among some issues that we should be discussing more now as we get closer to next year’s start and which already appears jam-packed for Netflix according to its movie plans for 2024.
When Deliver Me finally hits Netflix screens it will include Yasir Hassan and Olle Strand with both actors making their debut roles featuring as Billy and Dogge respectively. This will be the first credit for each young actor who joins a group of other established names from European market.
In addition, Yusra Warsama was mentioned by Netflix as appearing in this forthcoming Swedish crime drama as Billy’s mother Leila while Ane Dahl Torp and Henrick Norlén are playing Dogge’s parents Jill and Teo respectively. The cast also features Tusse played by Abdirahman Mohamed (Billy’s younger brother), Ardalan Esmaili (a local cop named Farid), Mahmut Suvakci (character known as Sudden) and Solomon Njie (Mehdi).
Netflix describes Deliver Me in a way that suggests it will be one of these emotionally-charged crime thrillers. The drama presents a situation where children commit heinous acts; one of them gets shot in the head and the other is accused for the shooting.
The immediate orbits of the two teenagers who are no longer friends because of that violent act, as well as their parents, local police officers and nearly everyone who is affected by this shooting are portrayed on this show. Lost children slipping through the cracks of society seems like an important theme within Deliver Me.
Netflix has many book adaptations and the list keeps getting bigger. Deliver me, based on Malin Persson Giolito’s 2022 crime novel with the same title (or I Dina Händer in Swedish) is also set to be one of them soon. This was after books such as Bortom varje rimligt trivel (Beyond All Reasonable Doubt) and Störst av allt (Quicksand), which won several awards after their release, but before Beyond All Reasonable Doubt (Bortom varje rimligt trivel) was published by Giolito in 2015.
The English translation of this novel titled Deliver Me like the series will come out on May 5th, 2024 published by Penguin Random House, maybe a hint at when Netflix will release their show.
Deliver Me also serves as the scriptwriter’s debut since she adapted that into a series, alongside Alex Haridi who was the head writer and Amanda Högberg who wrote episodes with her. Although it is the first time for Giolito to work on a streaming series or any television show for that matter, Haridi is well experienced in this medium having worked on programs such as Love and Anarchy; The Truth; God’s Three Girls etc.; movies including Miss Kicki; IRL; Tragedy in a Country Cemetery among many others. Högberg did Top Dog; Vuxna människor and Get Ready with Me among other things she has accomplished during her career.
Netflix announced that cameras had already started rolling for Deliver Me back in February 2023. It was not revealed how long production took although it occurred right where Stockholm Sweden like its novel setting. Expect to know more about the shoot soon enough.
However, this isn’t the maiden series based on Malin Persson Giolito’s works that made it to Netflix because Quicksand, her above stated novel was also turned into a film by the streaming service in 2019.
According to Netflix, Giolito once believed that Quicksand was her crowning glory professionally, but now she thinks that it will be this upcoming series.
We still have no idea when Deliver Me is going to come out exactly and how many episodes it will take before its story finishes or even when we can expect a trailer. But while we wait, our 2024 TV schedule (plus breakdown of the impending Netflix TV calendar) will give you all the latest information about new shows as well as returning favorites.
