This is a warning for uncharted game fans, they should be expecting less about the much talked about video game adaptation. The A-listers namely Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg successfully generate a few laughs with their exchanges. However, they never truly embody the beloved personas of the dashing treasure hunters. Uncharted has got a hackneyed plot that couldn’t keep my attention focused on it. This movie just feels like by-the-numbers adventure.

This poor CGI action isn’t saved by poor direction that makes the movie look like cut scenes from a PS4 game.

In their orphanage days, we are introduced to young Nathan Drake (played by Tiernan Jones) who watches his elder brother Sam (played by Rudy Pankow) escape after a failed robbery attempt. Today, Nathan (Tom Holland) runs a bar in one of New York’s swanky restaurants as he rips off customers with history lectures. Sully pays him an unexpected visit at work one day: Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). These two were partners alongside Sam searching for Ferdinand Magellan’s mythical lost gold.

What follows is nothing but a gripping tale of suspense involving Nathan and Sully as they search for Sam. They are not alone as other powerful enemies pursue the same fortune as well. In order to reclaim his birthright, Santiago Moncado(Antonio Banderas), whose family funded Magellan’s voyage across earth in 16th century; hired an unforgiving mercenary to get him out of that mess.Jo Braddock(Tati Gabrielle)and her gang will do whatever it takes to get billions in gold. The film also finds Nathan and Sully teaming up with Chloe Frazer(Sophia Ali), another former partner on a worldwide scavenger hunt against Moncado.

Firstly, let me come clean about this – I am not only obsessed with every single Uncharted video game there is; I have played them all. My intention was to watch this as a superfan. And also for those who have never heard about Naughty Dog’s Playstation franchise. This movie disappoints in both those aspects though. It is a bland representation of the game and a lukewarm action adventure film with lifeless characters, dull script, and ridiculous special effects. Unfortunately, it fails to create any sort of connection on an emotional level with the viewer. The narrative lacks fun.

Tom Holland does not portray Nathan Drake well at all. He is amusing and has really gotten into shape since his last role. Yet he simply doesn’t emanate the confidence and physicality of the character as seen in the games themselves. Tom Holland makes an awful Nathan Drake due to what makes him such a great Peter Parker/Spider-Man.The former decade was spent praying for Nathan Fillion by everyone.

I couldn’t help but think about him while watching the film, Fillion as Drake and Russell Crowe as Sully. Fantasyland beckons!

The producers of Uncharted should tailor the character more toward Holland’s strengths in future installments.

It would be good if anything stood out in this movie so that it could be recommended.Uncharted trudges along without picking up momentum.Antonio Banderas got paid off handsomely for this part. Nonetheless, remember to stay through to a certain point during the credits. There are plenty of entertaining ones on YouTube.Others involved in making Uncharted include Columbia Pictures, Playstation Productions, and Atlas Entertainment.
