Michael Bay’s wrecking ball goes through the streets of Los Angeles in an action movie with a dumb story. Ambulance is like a live version of Grand Theft Auto video game. Two dissimilar brothers cause havoc as they try to flee from a failed bank robbery they were involved in making it out alive. Ambulance does not make any sense at all. But had me laughing much more than expected between the insane shootouts and demolition derby.

Will Sharp is played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, an ex-Marine with a baby son and wife dying from cancer (Moses Ingram). He calls up his brother Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal) asking for money urgently. Will was adopted by Danny’s dad who was infamous for being tough on thieves. Will gave his best to separate himself from his family that also involved disowning his beloved brother.

Danny promises millions with an easy score. Rob the huge federal deposit at downtown bank.Simon already has this part all planned out; he just needs another guy he can trust to be their driver. The heist turns into total mayhem. The Sharp brothers are forced to hijack an ambulance driven by rookie cop Jackson White and paramedic, Cam Thompson (Eiza González).

Ambulance trashes the LAPD cruisers like a small child playing with matchbox cars after drinking too much Red Bull. It’s a two-hour automotive ruin fest. Will and Danny expertly shake off pursuing cops with hairpin turns that would cause whiplash in Formula One racers. There’s seamless editing, high-budget CGI effects, and destructive metal crushing that keep your adrenaline pumping. The chase is spectacular and nearly non-stop throughout the entire runtime.

In short, director Michael Bay (Bad Boys & Transformers franchises) loves it when things get extreme.Ironically, there is actually some storytelling going on here. This film brings back Bay’s trademark style called “Bayhem”.Which includes shots that make 360 degrees of his actors. Then, shots of their faces and actions are used to produce emotional tension. In addition, the scenes with gunfights and motorized action take place at terrifyingly high angles. The camera then dips down through a mix of physical and computer-generated imagery.Bay throws you into an escalating sequence of thrills. His rapid style is often too much.I’ve criticized him before for trading story for spectacle.Ambulance’s thin story sets the stage for all its action; i.e.Bay can go large without worrying about anything.

Cheesy lines become attractive when said by Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Ambulance as with previous Michael Bay flicks has instances of cheap racial humour. However, these two talented protagonists overcome this barrier. There are very few slow-motion shots of her running in a bikini.Michael Bay must have changed on how he films women. She’s not objectified in any way.It caught me off guard.I’d like to think Michael Bay has made some progress concerning the representation of women.More likely Jake Gyllenhaal wouldn’t allow or associate himself with such indecent portrayal.

You will have to abandon your thinking faculty. The plot has huge gaps which a person who drives an ambulance can go through. I laughed in places that were not intended for laughing. Altogether, it’s more good than bad. It is worth watching just because of the action itself. Visit the topmost cinema hall where Ambulance is screened
