Halloween Ends is a brave and exciting movie that still manages to have an almost satisfying ending for the two lead characters, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Michael Myers (Nick Castle). Halloween Ends turns its attention towards feelings and character development rather than bloodshed, unlike past films. As long as she plays Laurie, Curtis can never go wrong; on the other hand, Michael seems to be needless for the entire film. With no doubt Halloween Ends has some of the best kills in the series but it’s not until the last act that body count doesn’t really rack up. A good part of the cast was excellent while too many plots were being handled in this film.

On 31st October 2019, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) arrives at his babysitting job where he will watch over Jeremy Allen who is just a little boy. That same night when his parents are away, he decides to play a trick on Corey by locking him in the attic. Afterward, Jeremy’s folks arrive home only for Corey to burst through their door knocking Jeremy accidentally off the balcony railing of a stairwell. Thus leading to Jeremy’s death by falling from above as Corey is blamed for murder.

Flash forward four years after Michael went on his killing spree through Haddonfield during Halloween Kills in 2022; everybody there has gone crazy with some people going ahead to commit murders. Since then Michael has been missing after disappearing since 2018. You would think Laurie had moved on with her life caring of her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) living with her in her new house and writing memoirs about what happened all those years ago. Meanwhile, they ruled Corey incident with Jeremy was just an accident so now he is free but Haddonfield residents taunt him daily.

Corey gets into a fight with some young bullies resulting into him hurting his hand while fighting them off. Consequently, Laurie notices this and then takes him to the office of a physician whom Allyson works for. This is where things start getting intimate between Corey and Laurie as they become more acquainted with each other. Subsequent to having a panic attack at a Halloween party in a local bar with Allyson, Corey again faces several bullies who later throw him off from a bridge. He survives but an unknown person drags him into the sewers.

Corey wakes up one day in sewers only to find Michael waiting for him there. Halloween Kills apparently occurred four years ago which means that he has been living underground all this while. Once released, Corey kills a homeless man that had been staying nearby. During dinner date on the same day, an ex-boyfriend of Allyson’s who happens to be a policeman provokes Corey causing him later lure the cop into sewers where he easily convinces Michael to kill him. The two are now working as a team together.

Halloween Ends doesn’t finish strong despite the franchise coming to a close. It opens with an impressive first act, but it then gradually gets into several gray areas. The fact that Michael has almost only ten minutes on screen is key too. However, unfortunately, most of the deaths in Halloween Ends were caused by Corey rather than Michael; Rohan Campbell did make an astonishing student and/or accomplice for Michael. Nonetheless, although the cinematography and score were exceptional overall for the film, the plot direction was not as good as a closing chapter should have been.
